April 2016 [webmasterworld.com] was by far the worst month in my Adsense history, since the beginning.
Low payment (CPC), but now they removed the "Nessie arrows" and CTR took another dive.

I believed that it cannot get any worse, but I was wrong.

So, let's hope we will see some improvements/communications about this dire situation in May 2016.

P.S. 30 of April and 1st of May are holidays in many parts of the world...

That's what I have also seen, Trebuchet.

A lot of the content is not relevant to the title of the video.

Also, YouTube has lowered the bar ( requirements ) for becoming a YouTube Partner, which they have done a couple of times since I started up on YouTube.

Back then many people always complained about how hard it was to become a YouTube Partner.....not so these days.

That's not exclusive to YouTube though, you ought to see Houzz results and see what they get away with, utter irrelevance in many cases.

Wow, it looks like the death of my AdSense with a $1.22 yesterday and $0.26 so far today.

I thought I may just get to the minimum payment this month, I'm not so sure now, damn, I wanted to remove everything on the 31st.

Hey guys. I've been following/lurking these Adsense earning threads for months now after noticing my earnings beginning to tank as well. I run a fairly popular paranormal website that has grown in traffic and Adsense earnings significantly over the past year and a half.

In that time, most months I came very close to or usually exceeded the monthly payout limit. However, April and so far, May have been pretty terrible. It's discouraging when I watch earnings go from say for example: $20 a day to .23 cents today. For the months leading up to this April and May I've very rarely dropped under $1.50 for a day earnings. Now I'm lucky to make $1.

What sucks is that there currently isn't many alternatives (for myself) that payout as well as Adsense. Maybe I'll just switch all of my Adsense ads to Amazon ads after I hit payment threshold and try that route since I do get some sells with Amazon.

@Red bar I feel your pain mate, I just got back from fishing at 8:30 PM to find that so far today I have earned the measly sum of £.96, unbelievable, this is the lowest I've had by this time of the day since the first few weeks of running AdSense on my websites back in 2008. And this is 15 clicks, 15 clicks for £.96, that is absolutely pathetic. I'm changing my template which saw give me more space in my sidebar, hopefully a 300 x 600 unit may look quite good and could do quite well. But this can't carry on like this, there's no way I am going to entertain Google if this is all I'm going to get paid.

A lot of the content is not relevant to the title of the video.

A Bud Lite ad isn't relevant to the title of the Super Bowl, either, but that doesn't mean Bud Lite ads aren't effective with people who watch the Super Bowl.

Not all ads are (or should be) contextual. Often, advertising is about reaching the right demographic. (That's why you see so many commercials for medications on TV network news: the viewers skew older, so it makes sense to show them commercials for things like arthritis medicine between stories about plane crashes and political candidates that have nothing to do with sore joints.)

I was referring to the content of the video, not the content of the ads that precede them. In other words, people uploading a video of still images or a kitten licking its backside, under the title "SUPERBOWL HIGHLIGHTS, JUST IN!" Irrelevant content designed to fill enough upload time to warrant an ad load, and that's all. The Adsense equivalent would be if you ran sites containing Lorem Ipsum filler text and spammed them around the place. Annoying for users, deceptive for advertisers and unfair on genuine content creators. I can't believe Google allows it to go on.

Breeks: do you have a lot of interlinking between your website pages? I don't have any really, but I'm wondering whether to add more links, or if more linking would harm the CTR on my other ads.

Reading all of these posts makes me feel extremely fortunate. While I joined AdSense really late, my YoY earnings continue to increase. For those of you who work with multiple networks/partners yet are in a dilemma on whether to use them or AdSense, I can't stress enough the importance of running everything through an ad server like DFP. And better yet, stay with the times and look into concepts like header bidding.

Just a quick note:

My Earnings over the past 2 days took off really high at the beginning of the "new day in the Adsense account"

The clicks / CTR overall RPM was way high, and stayed high until about half way through the day.....

.......then it totally crashed back to earth with lower than average results....

Ouch!

In previous years if it started quite high it would have dropped down a little, though, usually finished very strong.

Or started average then finished on a high....boosting the overall earnings...

TWG - This has been happening to me, too. The RPM for the U.S. is in the 20s early in the day, and then settles down below 10 by the end of the day.

Yesterday was my best Sunday in a very long time. Why? I have no idea other than that I'm always adding content and improving the site.

Should remind myself not to check stats during the day. Done this twice today and each time they have shaved several clicks away. I bet they are doing this all the time. Very annoying.

Whatagreatdayitis,

WOW! That's a huge RPM! My highest RPM ever ( for a total month) was around $8:50 and that month was 2.5 times my usual earnings...

My highest daily RPM was around $23:00....though, the next highest is way lower.....

I remember looking into my Google Analytical when I was managing websites, and I think I remember seeing a daily Ecpm in the $100's or $1000's .....looked good, though, the earnings from that were not that much at all...so may have been a major glitch with the Analytic s. .

Good point about just working on and improving our website (blog) or, YouTube Channels, keeping up the engagement( a big ranking factor) and just continue with optimization, as well as adding lots of quality content.....

Note: Have tried blocking various Adsense Ad Categories, Sensitive Categories, Ad Types(Serving) as well as Advertisers,

You do get a few noticeable changes, though, in time, the numbers somehow always end up back to where they started...

So, I decided to just leave all of that alone....

@Whatagreatdayitis, you probably have the same traffic split as I have. We start the day with US traffic and then slowly move to Europe and then Asia, hence the lower RPMs for the rest of the day, but then it swings back up in the evening when we hit early morning in the US (I'm located in Europe).

Mobile ads load so slow I already navigate away before they show.

What is best solution to increase views?

I am using responsive.

You can't look at earnings/impressions on a day to day basis. Month to month or quarter to quarter is pretty much the only way to determine impact. I try to measure this month to last year/this month.

Nice way to start the day, I am being click bombed. CTR up to 60% and RPM currently over $2,000.

That aside, things have been much the same in May as they were in April. RPM has shown signs of increasing this past week, and I have noticed a few more jumbo clicks. Hopefully it's a strong finish to the month.

Excitement over. Logs examined, IPs blocked, clicks removed. Normal service / low RPM has been restored.

Having a stellar month this month - but mostly other networks are taking the claim for that rather than google.

Google is consistent - interested to see how this new automatic experiments will work (http://adsense.blogspot.co.uk/2016/05/product-update-automatic-experiments.html)

We also upgraded our server last week top of the range one which has seen our mobile traffic grow no-end thanks to the new found speed - can only imagine it's helping ad speed too.

So for me, May hasn't been as doom and gloom as previous months.

I've noticed that not only today, but other days I'm seeing money generated but I can't see where it's coming from. For instance, today I've had five clicks so far for 47p, however earnings today are £1.24. I can't find where this extra money has come from. Any ideas?

CPM ads. It's an ongoing shift from cpc towards impression cpm based bidding. Started observing start of the shift 1 year ago, guess it is catching up to more niches.

@ironside, yes. I estimate roughly 50%~ of ads now is CPM, at least for me

From the Official Ad-sense Blog page
[adsense.blogspot.com.au...]

Preventing Accidental Clicks " Fast Clicks are not real clicks "

" Not surprisingly, we found super-fast clicks on ads to provide little to no value to advertisers. That’s why we ignore fast clicks that we detect to be accidental immediately upon ad load. Rather than our ads causing surprise low quality clicks, users can continue on uninterrupted.
Edge clicks lack value
If you’ve used a mobile device, you know fat-fingers are a reality of touchscreens: the average fingerpad is roughly 50px large when pressing down.2 When we’re swiping, pinching, and poking our screens, it’s easy to accidentally touch the edge of an ad that appears unexpectedly or is placed too close to tappable controls on your screen. " .......

There is more to read and it makes sense with mobile phones and smaller devices whereby, many people would be accidentally hitting an Ad whilst attempting to watch a video, or browse a website, due to the small screen size..

As the % of mobile traffic increases, so would the % of accidental clicks...

Pretty basic information, though, it makes sense...

For us, CPM ads are slightly less than half of ad impressions, but their RPM is far higher than for CPC ads.
