Does anybody pay any attention to that "Revenue optimisation" graph?

The reason I ask is because mine is normally fairly high, at least on the circle four or five. However, since I changed a couple of my units to text only, it has dropped right down to 2.

Yea it will do that because Google wants you to let them decide whether or not to serve a text or a display ad.

I don't pay too much attention to that stuff. It's generic and as far as I can tell, not terribly accurate.

That said, unless I see something fairly egregious, I am pretty much fine with letting Google do what it wants and not spending too much time fiddling with the knobs. For the most part, it works for me.

I do better when that particular score is around 2. Got it up to 4 awhile ago and clicks plummeted. G doesn't know everything about my site yet. More so they know what they want me to do and we'll just have to agree to disagree on that subject. I'm with netmeg. Take it with a grain of salt and pay closer attention to what you're actual results are telling you. G's page speed analysis, on the other hand, was quite useful and well worth paying attention to (although I don't see it in my interface anymore).

OT -- I love the way, when I post a message here and I have a bunch of tabs open in my browser (making them quite narrow), the title in the tab says "post mess..." How apropos. ;)

My score has been on five for ages, however that is only because I have had every single ads units on text/image. This is not the first time it has dropped, I changed one ad unit to text only, and it has dropped down to 2, pretty stupid if you ask me. Is almost as if Google are trying to put the frighteners on you, making you think that if you are on a very low score, you're not going to do very well, or you will be penalised in some way.

I don't see the point in then giving you the option of text or image if they are going to then give you a very low score If you don't opt for both, why don't they just make it so that ad unit show both?

Well, if I had a choice between "a good score" and "great revenue," I think I'll take the revenue. Wait a minute, I do have a choice. You're right Ironside, it's a scare tactic IMHO. OK, call it a marketing tactic if you want to. Not much difference in this case.

Has anybody identified a particular ad unit that seems to perform extremely well on mobile devices? I have been studying the traffic to my website for the last two or three months and more people seem to use mobile devices than desktop or tabular. Sometimes you'll find that more people are browsing using desktop, but more than often, it appears that people are using their mobile devices to browse the website. It definitely makes sense, my website is all about tropical fish so we're looking at a wide variety of people, probably a lot of young adults who will rely heavily on mobile phones.

My CTR has nearly doubled in the last week for desktop users. On June 4th it went up nearly 30% and then yesterday in went up 30% on top of that.

It appears to be because they have finally re-enabled arrows on the ads for many destktop users. In December 2012 they launched them and my CTR went through the roof. They only lasted a month and they were yanked back away from me and CTRs fell.

Interestingly arrows on ads have been available on my site for tablet users since that testing and my tablet RPM has been nearly double my desktop RPM. Those two are coming into parity again now. I hope it lasts this time.

If it's an increase in legitimate traffic that is causing the increase, then I wouldn't be concerned. If your CTR suddenly spiked, then that could be worrisome. A CTR below 5% is perfectly normal. My CTR has actually been above that for years with no problems.

The size of the sampling of Adsense publisher experiences available in this thread, lack of in-depth information, and random injections of disassociated observations may lead you to some conclusion or another but to rely on what you see here as gospel would probably be a mistake (speaking solely about the earnings observations in this thread). For every shared experience here, there's almost always another completely contrary experience to match it and to try and derive statistical conclusions from this conversation would be a joke. Put this thread into the context of the entire Adsense publisher universe and I think statistically insignificant hits the nail directly on the head. Too much imagination can get you separated from the facts and using random, often half-baked conclusions posted by others is a great way to support your current contention but doesn't make your own suspicions any more accurate as a result.

Politicians are the pro's at applying imagination to statistics. The stats in this board will support just about any conclusion you wish to accept. People were noting how quiet it's been hear lately so I thought I'd do my part to liven things up a bit. Digest with a grain of salt or two on your margarita glass. That's my motto.

It matters not whether the sampling size is great or small, there are probably thousands of publishers working on their own from home or a small office who enjoy, and possibly empathise, the postings of ups, downs and the vagaries of AdSense.

Let's face one glaring fact...in 11 years, for the vast majority, it's not been possible to talk to anyone else about AdSense since the AdSense team do not talk to anyone except their favoured publishers.

Geez, a lot of webmasters had their teeth smashed in over the past couple of years and we wonder why WebmasterWorld isn't exactly a positive environment? I'm working on a website. It's called fairy tale land. It's about wishing for something that is not reality.

What's most telling? The fact that the stuck stats threads are DEAD. That tells me one thing. People are seeing bad days, but those aren't odd anymore. Those are the norm. How can you say it's stuck when frankly it doesn't really get unstuck day after day? <- My point.

Earning wise? I'm doing decently although today I came here to see if it's stuck for anyone. I sure hope it is.

ps. I hope WebmasterWorld never becomes fairy tale land, although I've been told that this is a private forum so if negative posts need to be deleted, that can happen. Same deal with members. Everyone has to decide for themselves what the state of Adsense really is. If you believe lack of posts means everyone is counting their money at home, so be it.

So you want everyone to agree with everyone else? There's a fair amount of difference between disagreement and criticism.

Some in here are doing well, others are having a tough go of it. Those are the facts. Not criticism. The reason for the facts are subjective in this discussion because there is little actual information and very little common ground available for the drawing of real conclusions. Yes we're pretty much all webmasters but the differences in what we do with that title is myriad.

When several people say they're having a bad day, it's impossible to even know if the reason is the same in all cases. Sorry, but from a statistical standpoint, in the grand-scheme of things, this conversation is irrelevant but that doesn't mean it's an irrelevant conversation on all levels. Of course, it is what you and I and everyone else here makes of it. For what it's worth...

Just to stay on the point of the thread. Things are looking up for me over the last few days...not that that means anything in the grand scheme of things or to anyone else who reads that. The variables that statement is based on are countless.

Possible, or it could mean that

1. People are busy
2. Stats aren't getting stuck much anymore (rarely see the red bar these days)
3. People are diversifying their operations and Adsense isn't their entire focus anymore
4. More people are doing well or maintaining the status quo and don't care to be bothered posting about it.

Again, this is a microcosm and as netmeg has pointed out on numerous occassions, this place gets busy when people have something to gripe about.

Of course, it could also be the case that all the Adsense publishers in the world suddenly up and quite the program. You could probably draw that conclusion if you consider what you see here to be statistically "significant."

I'm beginning to wonder whether AdSense is worth the bother, I might start looking around for other ways to make money from my website if it continues to be this bad. I just can't understand it, a few months ago I couldn't do anything wrong, I reckon if I fell in the sea I wouldn't get wet, now it's just absolutely terrible.

Mind you, I do sometimes wonder if things are working properly. Real-time in Google analytics told me there were only seven active users on my website before, when I looked there were loads more.

Maybe it was meant to be a joke, I don't know, but I do remember when it was originally posted I almost blasted a response since I considered it a pi$$ take!

Jaideemaak has hit the nail on the head, we can't do SFA about AdSense because won't/don't listen since we can't talk to them.

And FWIW Thursday had my lowest-ever CTR on mobile and smartphone since those metrics have been given.
