An old fashioned desktop WYSIWIG HTML editor
I want to edit some standalone HTML files
This is so old fashioned that it turns out that the forum i was looking for to ask it in is deprecated! In fact its the first time I noticed the Webmaster World has deprecated forums!
I want edit some standalone HTML files WYSIWIG without breaking their existing CSS or anything like that. The bits I need to edit are pretty simple HTML. A text editor works but feels clunky when editing anything more than a very short bit of text.
The only thing I could find still maintained was Seamonkey which seems a bit of a heavy solution for this. Does anything else (that will run on Linux) still exist.
And I am sure that you don't want any AI doing it for you. ;-)

I use Bluefish. It is open-source, free, runs under Linux, is well supported, and (for me) works very well. Has lots of tools and features to make repetitive and other tasks easier when editing HTML and CSS. But you have total control and can still edit the file any way you want. I recommend it.
Sorry - Have never used Seamonkey so can't offer any comparisons.
@Martin Potter I have used Bluefish many years ago, and its a good editor but its not WYSIWIG. I want to focus on the text rather than the HTML. You are absolutely right I do not want AI doing this for me, because I want precise editing of the wording (which is why I prefer WYSIWIG - I do not want to edit the HTML tags much, but the content.).
That said, Bluefish might be the best solution if I want to avoid Seamonkey The best thing I have found so far was Geany which is like Bluefish (light but with IDE feel and some IDE features) but less HTML oriented.
You're right, graeme, it is not WYSIWYG. My mistake. I guess in my late-summer fog I was thinking of something else. (My mind confused by too many tags, perhaps.)
By the way, is HoTMetaL still around? But it wasn't WYSIWYG either.
