The summer months are challenging for revenue. A lot of eyeballs are at the beach. However, summer can also be a time of great optimism. Here's to summer!

You could ask visitors if they are seeing that, also, are you noticing a CTR drop on all platforms or just one in particular?

@Grapetimes Its all on high end mobile devices. I think that must be it. I see you have a separate thread about that. I'll join that thread and read through that.

I own 2 small sites that I built over years in my free time when I wasn't helping clients. One with higher authority still has a solid and stable RPM. The other with lower authority (but more traffic) is getting crushed.

A larger site where I contribute content is doing great. Again, it has high authority.

I'm not going to claim based on just three sites that whether you get good RPMs anymore depends on authority. But it does make me wonder.

Google's quarterly financial reports used to show CPC, total paid clicks and other data for "member websites". It stopped sharing that information last year. Now it simply shows "partner" revenue.

As a YouTube publisher, I'm pretty confident that most of the growth in partner revenue is going there. It needs to incent video publishers to produce more videos to make up for the costly new advertising rules that have forced YouTube to hire a lot more people.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Google is sharing less money with "member websites" in order to prop up its profit margin, stock price and investment in YouTube. So I'm willing to bet that Google is cutting off more websites based on rules that might include site authority.

By the way, my YouTube views have more than doubled in the last 6 months while my site audiences have declined. I don't think that's a coincidence.

I don't think that's a coincidence.

Neither do I ... When checking keyword searches for some of my widgets I am now seeing 3 x youtube videos as the #1 results and, being totally honest, they are complete rubbish.

Of what use is it for any English language searcher to be delivered a video in Hindi with no subtitles?

Good grief Google!

Yesterday was quite a good day, fairly good CPC with quite a lot of clicks. I think I will surpass May's earnings.

June has been a joke so far. I make about 99% of my traffic in the EU and sure enough when i disabled personalized Ads clicks fell down the toilet. I will make about 250 euros this months when i should have made 600 / 800 euros.

Other ads providers are a bit on the rise though, so i might sooner or later abandon Adsense completely.

Thanx Europe !

I don't understand all this CPC stuff. So far I've had one click today. When I checked this morning that click was worth just over 30p, that one click has now risen to 54p. If only every click was worth this much, add be well in.

the quality of ads i'm getting is really atrocious since the GDPR change. i was hoping when they were forced to remove all the personalised ads they might go back to contextual ones again (properly contextual ones), but they seem to be only very loosely based on the subject matter.

imagine i've got a site devoted to football... they'll give me lots of sports ads, but they will be about water-skiing in the bahamas, or something like that.
and if i've got a tourist site devoted to new york, they'll give me lots of travel ads, but they'll be about caravan holidays in peru.

there's nothing much you can do to increase your earnings when they give you ads like that. and then you log on to adsense and you get that box saying you're delivering "poor value clicks" to the advertisers — well it's not wonder they're getting poor value when the ads are so completely out of whack with the user's interests!

I have seen a significant fall in CTR in June 2018 vs June 2017
CPC is slightly higher in June 2018 than in June 2017
I switched to non-personalised ads for EU users following GDPR, but the fall in CTR is similar for contextual and personalised
So I don't think it's a contextual issue - more likely an Adsense-wide issue
Any ideas?

Maybe it has to do with the World Cup ?

@andymorris
Good point - I did wonder that, but the figures are almost identical before and after 14 June (the day the World Cup started)
My sector is finance, so I'm wondering if a lack of volatility in stock markets could be affecting demand for investment-related products
May try replacing one of my 4 adsense ads with an affiliate banner and see how that compares

Do people stop clicking ads and start kicking balls when it's world cup? ;)

The CTR has dropped a lot in last 7 days. June is still very good.

Indeed June has been a very good month so far, but RPM dropped dramatically over the past two days. Is it because of Mesi? LOL

Anyone else seeing adverts that say "open" instead of an arrow?

Yesterday was my worst ever day. 2p for 1500ish visitors. I took a look at my site and many are showing alternative adverts (that I made) or text adverts with a white background (not good when your site is black)

Sometimes it will show text adverts using the colours that I have chosen, but not often.
I even used the old style code, but it's overwritten them with the white background.

Full May and June CTR was historically lowest and CPC was highest. However today it is reversed. High CTR with low CPC. By high I mean 1%.

Kash, this always happens ( I have converted about 20 sites in last 6 months) but should only last a few days. It's because they recheck each page before showing ads on the https pages (you will see this if you look at coverage %).
In longer term I have seen no impact at all on earnings (or on results in search) from change to https in any of these sites.

Lot of ups and downs, Some day is acceptable, the next is horrible; June's earnings are utterly inconsistent on a daily basis. Overall, June 2018 is 25% down compared to June 2017, with 30% more traffic! All signs (inconsintency, huge fluctuations, revenues down on a montly basis) indicate the same thing: there is more offer of ad spaces than demand from advertisers; therefore, Adsense tries to balance such asymmetry, as well as to not "dissatisfy" too much we publishers. So they send quality ads for some hours, before sending crap low-paying ones for the rest of the day....
If you are lucky, in those few hours, you'll make your average daily income and think it's all OK and back to normal; if not, you'll have a really bad day and you'll begin struggling to understand what's wrong with your website (https, ad units size and position, GDPR, content quality, speed, and so on; all irrelevant things, since the problem is not on your side but on advertisers' one).

I'm finding CTR and CPC extremely inconsistent in June
It doesn't make any sense!

CPC is very high today, 34p. Only had 10 clicks so far today which is strange. Anyway, it's mid-afternoon in the US so I've still got plenty of earning time left to build up hopefully a fairly decent day.

I admit this is something that is always puzzling me about Americans' point of view on that matter. Why, during every single holiday in the US or everywhere else across the world, do you expect a drop in traffic / revenue?
Usually, people have more spare time and an easy-minded attitude during holidays, so they are possibly more keen to spend money easily and click on ads. We have all accepted the fact that there are less people on the internet during weekends and holidays, and that, therefore, you'll earn less in such periods? So, all our converting traffic is coming from people clicking on advertising spaces at work, one hand on e-mails from customers while the other keeps on surfing on the web and clicking on ads? Quite strange, indeed.

Because a significant amount of people are traveling during holidays, visiting friends, family, or using their spare time with these friends and family instead of being in front of a screen visiting sites.
Also, being at home, people watch more TV, whereas, when they are at their office "working", they surf the Internet :)

The worst 2 day of the year is usually christmas eve and new years eve :). For most of the niches at least.

Yesterday CPC ended up as 30p. However, with only 18 clicks earnings were mediocre. If only I was getting 60 or 70 clicks like I was three years ago I would be really happy.

This seems to be a trend. If I get 30 or 40 clicks than the CPC is not always that hi. However, if I only get 20 clicks maximum then in many cases the CPC is quite high.

Anyway, I've already exceeded last month earnings so at least I am going in the right direction.
