I became an AdSense publisher in June or July of 2003. I think of it as being in from the beginning. It was great.

In late summer of 2013 I was having a normal day. I was walking for exercise about 6 miles per day.

I went to my brother's home for a visit. I started feeling bad and I remember him taking me to the local hospital emergency room.

The next thing I remember I was on a helicopter emergency flight headed for surgery at a different but major hospital.

I'll write more later as I have time and tell you all about AdSense and how to protect yourself. If anyone here works for AdSense, I hope you read this and work out some way that I can get back in.

Been there, done that back in October 2012, with a heart attack.

I'll say one thing about it though - it makes all other problems look extremely insignificant in comparison, including AdSense.

I'll explain AdSense a little more later. I haven't been able to make contact with anyone with AdSense and haven't received payment in a year.

I remember looking out the window of the helicopter on the flight.

After that I was out of it. "Brain Dead" as they say. The following is what I was told by my relatives. I was in surgery for several hours by a heart surgeon and a nurosurgeon.

Then I was in a coma for several days. My family said they were being told by the physicians they didn't know if I would live and that I had brain injury.

The next thing I remember I was away from the hospital and a patient in a nursing center hospital to receive physical therapy and speech therapy.

I had my leg but I had no muscle/strength in that leg. I couldn't sit up because I had no strength on one side. I couldn't even sit in a wheelchair because I would just tumble out.

I started speech therapy where I learned to read again and learned to write again.

I started physical therapy to start building muscle again.

I had therapy several times per day.

I was there for about 5 months. I had follow up appointments with both surgeons who each looked at me and read my records before telling me "You're supposed to be dead"

My therapy progressed to the point that I went from lying down all the time to being in a wheelchair to using a walker to trying using a cane.

Then I was moved from there to a rest home type facility to receive more physical therapy. I'm still here and have moved from using a walking cane to graduating from the cane. I now walk on my own and am still using regular exercise to work on things and improve my "balance" while working.

The time at the first place plus the time at the second and it's now been a year.

Thanks to everyone who has said Hello on here and by Private Mail. I don't want to try and name everyone because I might omit someone's name.

Now about AdSense.

August in 2013 was when I visited the hospitals. I guess July of 2013 was the last time I received a payment.

Up to then, as I remember, I had received a payment every month AdSense was in existence except for one.

When it became obvious I was gone for a long time, a relative packed up everything I owned and put it in a storage locker - it's still there.

My payments to renew domains weren't being made and my payments monthly to my ISP wasn't being made so I began to lose everything. I lost my old ISP and the email. This was the email address I used with AdSense.

I guess - and can only assume - that each month after that AdSense would send a check that I never received and it was returned to AdSense until eventually they stopped sending them to me.

They might have been trying to contact me by email, but the email messages weren't being responded to and were just out there in somewhere in Cyberspace.

When I started to recover and got access to my laptop and Internet, I started trying to recreate things. I had lost almost all my domains, etc.

I got a new email address, first with Yahoo and later (now) with Gmail.

I started trying to get in touch with AdSense. That's when I started trying and realized how difficult if not impossible it is.

I got the address to their California location and their Atlanta Georgia location. I wrote both, by U.S. postal mail, and asked someone to contact me by Gmail. No response.

I posted on their forum more than once. No response.

I had my email address and login password written in a folder but didn't have access to the now lost email address.

I've tried logging out of my Gmail account and logging in but the computer just tells me I'm not a publisher.

I have my Pub ID and Social Security number in writing so if I ever got the chance, I could prove who I am. I live here in the United States and my SS number is my tax number that Google has and can tell I haven't had a payment in a year.

I tried finding a login with IE but to no success. Using a search just somehow goes to Bing and somehow back to Google.

If anyone knows how I can be contacted by AdSense at my Gmail address I would appreciate it. Maybe you have a contact person at AdSense?

Anyway, that's where I am now. I do have a new domain and a website that I add to daily.

I left out some small details. I especially left out some details about the pain. I'd rather forget that.

If anyone has any suggestions for making contact by email with AdSense I would appreciate it.

I am in awe of your strength and perseverance. I am sure many people would have given up and the fact that you have put so much effort into your recovery bears testament to your strength of character.

I hope that you manage to get your problems resolved, and would like to think that by posting the details here it will get picked up and looked into.

Thanks SmallP.. In case anyone is interested, and concerning strength of character, I recommend a book by Lisa Osteen Comes titled "You Are Made For More.

You can probably find a good used hardback for a few dollars on that auction site that rhymes with hay.

She was born with Cerebral Palsy conditions, got married then her husband left her and got a divorce, and later she went to work for her dad and opened a package containing a bomb that someone mailed to him. It blew up in her face.

She overcame all that and is going strong now. I would suggest anyone read it for inspiration.

After lunch, my time, I'll write those suggestions on what everyone should do to prepare for your own troubled streak.

It's quite interesting as to why this was orginally written!

Make a list, handwritten if neceassary. If you're a nervous security person, keep that list in a safe, in a safety deposit box, etc.

I live on the east coast of the U.S. We change our clocks here once an hour backwards in the Fall and an hour forward in the Spring. That's two good times to remember to change your smoke detector batteries.

Use that as two times to check/update your password security list.

Keep a list of each password, login names, security question answers, date you started the program, domain address, etc.

Don't rely on memory or like me you might not have it one day.

Use one of the Internet email providers. If you have your login details, you can get back in from any computer with Internet access.

Maybe someone can add tips to this list.

And let someone know where it is. I know that sounds stupid, but I remind my husband once a year where I keep the "hit by a bus" file - as we call it. Every password is in it and I highlighted the BIG ones. The ones he needs to pay the bills if something happens to me.

I also keep the current approximate valuation of my site in the file and contact info for possible buyers. My husband does not have the skills to keep the site running on his own. So I expect he would sell it. But I do not want to see him get screwed on the deal either.

I keep a digital copy of all such info on an SD chip as well as a paper copy. I update this file every time I change a password, which is fairly often.

It goes in my safe deposit box at the bank with a complete digital backup of my HDs once a month or so.

I keep offline digital backups of the HDs here with me.

I use a couple of external HDs for the back ups.

My better half knows where to find this stuff and what to do with it.

I like to keep my critical domains etc prepaid for a few years at least, gives comfort zone for unforeseen stuff.

Time to double check all this stuff I guess.

I am so forgetful, farmboy. I've already thrown away 3 pans this year because I forgot I was cooking something. I was boiling eggs last week, and by the time I had remembered, the egg shells was starting to burn. The week before, I had a chicken in the oven for almost 5 hours because I forgot.

And they are so noisy too. Annoying.

I used to think the only reason was to let Google know you were here for the long haul, and not just fly-by-night - or whatever the urban myth was.

FarmBoy has now added another valid reason.

Of course we're still stuck with the problem of also keeping hosting payments current.

FarmBoy has unwittingly provided us all with a multi-dimensional view of what can go wrong when the unforeseen occurs.

In my case, I was only incapacitated for about a fortnight - but I was separated from everything and that was a huge worry at the time. "What can go wrong, will go wrong".

We obviously all need a good backup plan folks.

If i can just add two little piece of advice as well:

Don't allow anyone to be completely dependent upon you, and if you love your spouse or children, don't be a hoarder.

I don't want to stray too far from FarmBoys situation, only to say that if you are having a hard time getting motivated to make changes for your own sake, then at least think about making those changes for the sake of your loved ones.
