How many have spouses or children who are computer-clueless?

How do you handle that as far as providing passwords, etc.

My "better" half is basically computer illiterate, he can get to his email (but he rarely reads any of them), sometimes he can get to his Facebook page (but he does nothing there) and always has me do any searching for things he wants to find out about. But he knows his Harleys well! (he has 3 of them)

As for his passwords, I log all of them in a little notebook so he can get to them while I'm at work. I don't have mine written down but probably should.

I think one search on the Internet should be worth about 1 hour of riding his Harley. Or 30 minutes if you get to ride by yourself.

I'm always the passenger. Years ago I would've wanted to learn how to ride/drive one but no longer.

Great post Farmboy, welcome back and hopefully on to a complete recovery.

A very good reminder to plan ahead for a period of incapacity. I've thought about what would happen to my earnings if I died and read a couple of posts on here about that. All were inconclusive. The only practical suggestion was to change from sole employment to a company. If I died the company could still operate. All other solutions appeared to be flawed.

I had never considered long term incapacity. Your experience of it is of great worth to all of us. Please keep posting about it.

Are you prepared if something happenes right now? Remember I was living a normal life and then Boom - everything changed.

Are you prepared if something happens while you are driving today?

Are you at your desk? What if that airplane crashes on the building where you are in 5 minutes? There will be no time to prepare 6 minutes from now.

What if you are like me and need someone to watch things for you? Have you told someone you trust about AdSense, what it is and what it does?

Do they know how to get in touch with AdSense? It's not as easy as sendig a company a letter or email. Without WebMasterWorld and the help of some "friends" I've never met before, I would still be without contact and in deep frustration.

P.S. I'm putting a plug for the book I mentioned below. I don't get anything for it. I'm not suggesting where or how you get it. Just a great inspiration for you or anyone you know who could use the inspiration. If anyone you know gets the book and finds encouragement, I'd be happy to hear about it.

When preparing the ad code, what's the difference between "Asynchronous" vs. "Synchronous" ?

Is that like the difference between a boy and girl cow?

Asynchronous loads after the page, Synchronous loads with the page.

Really, I don't even know why they offer the Synchronous option anymore. No more worrying about AdSense hanging your page up while it is loading. Why would you go back to that?

Oh, I don't know. I think my last comment fell firmly in the juvenile category. :D Sorry, I spend too much time around my husband who has a razor wit and a 12 year old sense of humor. My humor has devolved to that level out of sheer survival instinct. hehehe

I prefer it. And IIRC the other option doesn't validate in the DTD that I use.

No more worrying about AdSense hanging your page up while it is loading. Why would you go back to that?

The only time my pages hang is when there are server issues. The page would hang with or without adverts. Normally, it was a DDOS attack, or a screwup by the hosting provider in a server upgrade.

without giving it a lot of thought, I said 21. He said 25. "because you get a break on car insurance at 25."

He was a CPA. :)

I managed to get an email address of a friendly person at AdSense. I provided that person with an address, web name, etc. that I remembered.

I want to ask about something that seems new with AdSense.

If I put a display on a web page, it seems to tell me I have to select "Text Ads and Display Ads".

If I want a "Text Ads" only display, that has to be the second one on that page, but not the only display on the page.

Is that correct?

Text Ads vs. Display ads just means that you either want word based ads or image based ads - or choose both and AdSense will decide which is most profitable for you site and display that one.

There is no rules on where different ad types need to appear, as far as I know.

Forgive me for asking another "get back in touch with modern history" question.

What is the current opinion on making links to pages as "Open in a new window" links.

I realize I seem like someone who is late to the party, but what's the current thought on using an ad size when you expect an equal number to be using a PC and an equal number to be using a mobile device?

I only use open in a new window for links going off my site.

As far as ad sizes - most of my traffic is mobile (70-80%) and both the 300 x 250 and the 160 x 600 ads seem to render just fine on any smartphone or tablet. They are among the Google recommended sizes too, which probably means that G has the stats to support their effectiveness.

If your site is using a responsive design, you can choose responsive AdSense ads - but they expect it to have responsive css and viewport settings. All info you can get at AdSense or other discussions around here.

BTW, I wasn't in here so much until the past few years so I didn't know you from "before" but I have to say your experiences and the comeback are an inspiration. I had a friend who was nearly cut in half in a car accident who was many years in getting back on his feet again, your story sounds so very similar. I wish you all the strength and resources to get your business back in action again. Thank you for sharing it.

I contacted a helpful person at Adsense about the missing payments who then contacted someone else at AdSense.

I'll need to wait until I hear from them.

I hope their backlog is not as long as the list of people awaiting initial approvals.

The previous post made me wonder where all the people on this board are located. I realize you folks have probably done this before..

but I'm in the US - North Carolina.

I've also lived in Oklahoma, Georgia, and South Carolina.
