So Adsense revenues are dropping because of too many spam sites or because advertisers are being forced into mobile, and mobile ads do not pay as well? Nothing about the new ad formats causing a decrease in CTR.

The article also has a quote about digital publishing going over a cliff. Soon everything will be mobile and ad revenues will keep decreasing.

Do you really think Google shares have hit a recent all time high because they are stupid? Google have some very clever people working for them and along side them. The new ad format is bang on for the saying in trading lanquage of "Follow the money".

I also have some very clever people working for myself yet some of them also happen to lack hardly any commonsense, rationale nor understanding when trying to work with clients.

Don't equate supposed qualifications with the simple comprehension of how business actually works in the real world when they're locked away all day in The Plex's playpens.

Redbar, there is no such thing as common sense, common sense is only in the hands of the beholder judging what common sense should be. Common sense to me would be to follow the money in what is happening in 2013. Common sense IMO also tells me that people should not attack their employer when using ads on their sites that their employer have delivered. Once any person have received a payment from Google, then technically Google become that persons employer, when Google see threads like "Haunting tales of adsense that would spook any webmaster" maybe they don't take to kindly to it and get information and then take action. I had to take serious action from this thread because Play_Bach but me into serious concern and had to straighten this out with Google that I was the innocent party on this forum and brought no Malice but just opinions of going forward with my employer. People have mentioned that this thread is quiet, are the moderators surprised? people like myself get attacked once joining the forum and many many people read this thread believe me! people are scared of getting attacked on this forum from the clique. The clique soon could get delt with IMO. I am very Pro Google and actaually want to work with people that common sense tells me IMO that they are clever and moving things forward. There have been "haunting tales of AdSense that would spook any webmaster" as long as this forum has been around; Google barely comes here any more, and even if they do, they don't act against webmasters on the basis of forum posts. If that were the case, I wouldn't be doing better every single year with AdSense, because I am not shy about laying into them on forums, on my website and on Twitter, and they *know* who I am.

But what you *don't* do is waltz into an existing forum like you own the place and tell all the members (some of whom have been posting here for almost ten years, and participating in AdSense since it opened its doors) that you're going to school us all in the finer points of AdSense. We'll put up with it for a while, but if you make yourself unwelcome, we will most definitely let you know. Repeatedly.

I'm doing almost exactly the same as last year this month, oddly, even the CTR is the same. It's so similar it's weird. Fortunately since the rest of the year was so much better, I'm still way up. But I'm uneasy about where AdSense may be going (re that article); I will definitely be spending more time on direct ad sales. Built a way cool signup form with WordPress and Gravity Forms!

Just why do you obviously consider Google employees to be so much more clever than everyone else on the planet? I can tell you that Google are being run ragged by blackhatters, there are some extremely intelligent and smart people out there that are running rings around Google and not only do they know it they seemingly powerless to do anything about it.

If anything it should be a left wing group since many webmasters and sites consider that they are being exploited, under-valued and under-paid.

There is no forum clique here, I've been here under several guises for more than 10 years and had many a discussion with the best in the industry. Without doubt there has been a massive amount of frustration with Google this past 2-3 years with them implementing so many changes mostly, it would seem, only for their own benefit and not their so-called "partners" and their continued non-willingness for discourse with this, or any other, forum board.

Fine, it's their business therefore if they want to run it without any input from their so-called "partners" then they ought not to be surprised when things start to go wrong and none of us turn around to assist. I did that for them in the 90s, for free, I ain't doing it again!

Back on subject. Just passed last months Adsense earnings with few more days to go. Non adsense earnings are way up, adsense earnings slightly up.

Direct ad sales and affiliate are now about 50% of revenue. At one time Adsense was 95% of revenue.

These days you need more than one basket for your eggs.

This has happened to me the last two months, only it's been the first week that has taken a big dive. Just when I start to panic, it's come back better than before. No idea why.

My pattern lately seems to be bad day > good day > bad day > good day > etc.

I'm kind of beginning to think the good days include clicks from the day before because the overall (month) average is fairly stable at recent levels.

It's been terrible since oct24 if I recall correctly, suddenly a solid 50% of my daily earnings.

RPM for the past week have been highest week for october for me.

Earning is roughly in the same range as my pv's have been lower for seasonal and trending reasons.

Don't see much variations with CTR.

Can we assume that all these observations are made from sites with reasonably high and constant traffic levels?

I don't know how specific we can go here in WebmasterWorld. Not all my sites run Adsense for personal reasons and several other ones... but I'm having about 5K uniques daily and earnings went down to 50%. The traffic is all organic, stable, no paid links, everything natural, pure white hat, etc. Several years around.

MY CTR keeps on decreasing and It's getting totally out of control. My RPM is at 20% of what it used to be before Sept 19th (first huge drop on Sept 19th after redesigned ads have launched, then Oct 4-5th, and it keeps on decreasing).

I've been having adsense on my sites for years and never seen this so bad. I think Google is shaving us big time - things cannot keep on dropping this dramatically without any changes on our end.

What I have is a group of sites in the same vertical, the observation I make is based on the gross total of pv's and earnings.

My sites with 2~5k pv's all flucuate between 50%~200% of average earning. An expensive click is all it takes to throw it over the average. But once you add all of them together, they soften the edges of each other. And I now have a consistent earning +/- 10% of the average.

Is that something that other people see as well?

All of my metrics have gone exponential today. CPC up from around an average of .28 cents to over $2 today. Revenue about 5X what it normally is. I have no idea why. Anybody else?

Maybe an adjustment in the SERPs, my PR hasn't changed, maybe I just got a couple of $10 clicks or something. Not complaining, actually rather pleased, but I'll bet my estimated earnings will vary widely from my finalized earnings this month. Took a 15% hit last month, not too happy about that.

I don't think Google is shaving us (my own experience is directly the opposite, and something like that would get out, as they are reporting a specific share percentage in each and every one of our accounts) but the entire advertising landscape has significantly changed in recent years. The way AdWords works has changed ginormously, ad blindness, mobile, ad blocking technology, ad styles, you name it. It's a different ballgame.

Today, my earnings are steamy. As I like to say, hot and juicy. The month has been stellar, but even with a lower traffic situation today, my earnings are going higher and faster than I have typically seen lately.

According to my google adsense app I'm up 16% This month so far vs same day Last month.

Publisher and Websites quality.
There was a comment a while ago regarding Adsense having more and more websites of low quality, some took offense on it, not me. I somehow agree with the statement because MFAs are all around still to this day.

But not only that... take a look at the many low quality, off topic and unrelated posts on this branch, it clearly reflects some of that original statement. A lot of webmasters have complained online and by PM and many others just left (and some are still leaving) part of this is, as some member said: there is little to analyze (at least easily) because GAdsense is like rolling the dice. There are still very good posts but in my opinion there is increasing noise in the forum. Old are the days were reading was about post by post, now I reach the end of the page more often.

You know what they say about "assumptions," right? It's amazing that anyone feels they can glean any useful information from posts that read "Revenue up 50% today" or "Today was my worst day ever."

Try these assumptions on for size

Everyone posting here uses Adsense text ads exclusively (as opposed to mixing it up with display ads).

Everyone positions ads in the same place on their pages e.g. always a Leaderboard above the fold.
