I come accross many cases where the ninimum bid is too high.

I have many cases where I have an average position between 1-3 by bidding the minimum bid and the costs are too high. Unfortunately I cannot lower the bid since I bid the minimum bid already. The only option if I want to reduce costs is to pause the keyword which is not really an option.

How else can I reduce my costs if I cannot lower the bid and I don't want to pause the keyword?

Try blocking search term variations that are not appropriate, or that produce few conversions.

My keywords are standard match and one keyword in most adgroups will trigger over 70% of the traffic and 90% of the costs!

Try setting them to advanced match. I do much better on that match type.

I believe that if I change the settings to advanced match I will have even more impressions and therefore clicks!

How are you measuring the productivity of your impressions and clicks?

If the clicks are leading to conversions then it would be good to have more clicks.

I am looking at the overall performance but in some case the keyword doesn't perform well. This doesn't mean that I want to pause it because I can still benefit from some brand awarness. Of course in that case I don't want to spend too much but if I am already bidding the min. Bid with an avg. pos. above 4 what options are left?

And I don't want too many impressions because I know it will not convert.

I came again across several cases where my average position is above 4.0, while I am bidding the minimum bid. Those accounts are in GBP and in EUR, the minimum bid is 0.10-0.15 in GBP or EUR and I cannot lower the bid! By today's exchange rate GBP 0.15 are USD 0.23.

I think that this doesn't make sense. If my Avg. pos. was 9.0 or below I could understand that I cannot lower my bid but not when the position is above 4.0!

Also try to play with different ad copies (maybe 10 or more) for a few days and then when you find winner(s) with really high ctrs, it may help in reducing your cost-per-click.
