Yahoo Inc. plans to sell online-video and display ads for the Web portal of Comcast Corp., the country's largest pay-television provider, under a multiyear partnership announced Monday. The deal ends speculation about whom Comcast would choose for at least some of its Internet-advertising services as the cable giant aims to generate more revenue from the Web. Comcast hasn't decided yet on a partner for its online-search services as an existing pact with Google Inc. is set to expire.
The Yahoo deal underscores the Comcast's commitment to become a destination for Internet as well as television content. Its Internet business could bolster Comcast amid worries TV and film producers will bypass television distributors altogether and pipe content directly to the Web.
