Why are there extra ads showing in yahoo?

Hi. When you search in yahoo for different terms and you search in [overture.com...] on the same term, you will notice that there are some ads in yahoo that are NOT FOUND on overture.com. The ads that are in yahoo but not found on overture.com are also the sort of ads that are likely to be dissaproved in yahoo.

Do you have any idea how these ads get in there? Do Yahoo get ads from other places to supplement their advertising results?

The specific example I was looking at is when searching for "jessica alba" on yahoo (with a USA ip address) and searching for "jessica alba" on overture.

Where do these extra ads come from?

Yahoo has implemented a system where broad match (or more precisely in Yahoo's case - partial match) fills in the lower places.

e.g.

Search: Red County Widgets

Match 1 - Red County Widgets
Match 2 - Red County Hotels
Match 3 - Widgets

Beware of 'partial match' as we have many gorgraphical terms which are only supposed to show for 'town widget' but actually show for 'widget'. This is replicated over many advert groups, and it often picks a different town to use as the 'generic'.

We have a similar problem. We have a keyword that we specifically don't bid on because it is an extremely general word. Unfortunatly, our ads show up for the general keyword anyway, even though we don't bid on the word.

Funny thing is that if we actually bid on the general word with the ad they're showing, they'd probably remove our ad because it isn't specific enough to the keyword. The Yahoo editorial rules are completely screwed up. I was hoping it would get better with Panama, but it only seems to have gotten worse.
