More real estate to challenge the SERPs, but an opportunity for the local SEO, imho.

I'm not exactly willing to say that it is an opportunity for white hat SEO.

Yelp is notorious for allowing anonymous users to post incorrect or wrong information about a business, without giving the business a reasonable way to appeal to get the untrue statements removed.

Yelp can also be gamed by businesses that want to create 100 user accounts and 100 5 star reviews for their business. Each account with 100 friends and each of the 100 reviews with 99 votes that is was useful, (you can not vote a review was useful from the account that created the review).

Yelp is very difficult to game, and notoriously difficult to shift from the SERPS if you're doing some ORM to tackle a bad review.
