Yahoo Gives Its U.S. Search A New Look

When it comes to search, nothing should stand between you and your results. That’s why we’ve placed search results higher on the page. And thanks to some under-the-hood performance improvements, many of you will notice that the page also loads faster.

It's time to start watching the stats to see how it works.

Put the three major engines on adjacent tabs and search for a monetizable query like...

[hotels bigcityname]

Note where the ads end and the organic results begin. On some monetizable travel terms, it's actually not easy to distinguish between ads and organic. On such searches, there are 4 ads at the bottom, with everything above the fold on my browser (as it's generally set up) also either ads or Yahoo Travel.

Aside from that, it's got a clean look. On pages that aren't monetizable, I'm seeing a default of something like 17 or 18 organic results returned on most search pages.

I'm realizing that it's been a while since I've looked at the Yahoo search page, so it's hard for me to compare the new with the old... but if you think Google is bad (and it is), this is disgraceful.

The new Y! looks like a UI person from Google was running Yahoo...

Wow Bob, you're right. It's difficult to distinguish ads from SERPs for monetizable search queries. For AdSense layouts, I used to call that The Blend.
