Today, I’m excited to share with you our next big push: we want to give our loyal users and new folks the opportunity to sign up for the Yahoo! ID they’ve always wanted.Yahoo ID Clearout By July 15 [yahoo.tumblr.com]

So, how are we making these Yahoo! IDs available? We’re freeing up IDs, that have been inactive for at least 12 months, by resetting them and giving them a fresh start. In mid July, anyone can have a shot at scoring the Yahoo! ID they want. In mid August, users who staked a claim on certain IDs can come to Yahoo! to discover which one they got.

What if you haven’t logged into Yahoo! for over a year, but want to keep your Yahoo! ID? It’s easy. All you have to do is log on to any Yahoo! product before July 15th.

it appears that yahoo is clearly showing why you shouldn't sign up for a yahoo.com email address.

Phishing in 2013:

Step 1... Register for a ridiculous amount of recycled yahoo accounts.

Step 2... Submit password reset requests under that email account.

Step 3... Get email confirmations and gain access to old social profiles, news services, shopping carts (that might have credit card info), etc..

Unethical business idea: input an email address for an auto submission for password resets across every major social service, publishing platforms, and ecommerce shopping carts... Business has probably never existed because email companies haven't been dumb enough to make it so simple to steal others accounts.

PS. Yahoo, this is not only a stupid idea, it is also irresponsible!

Er, Yahoo, did you have your attorneys look at this clause? That's a textbook case of a mis-positioned comma of the kind that can lead to unintended reinterpretations.

Would be nice to know what "reset" means, wouldn't it?

My primary e-mail address has some connection to yahoo. When I first signed on (buyout of previous host, no conscious choice) I was struck by the fact that it took them several years to figure out that the reason my first-choice name was unavailable was that it was already in use... as a spam-forwarding address.
