Google has given its CAPTCHA system a snappy name reCAPTCHA and says it now will be invisible to humans, whereas bots will still be faced with solving challenges, and can be used to help protect a site from spam and bot abuse. Google's developments in AI and machine learning have contributed towards this advanced risk engine and adaptive CAPTCHAS. https://www.google.com/recaptcha/intro/invisible.html

Excuse me, but isn't that the point... to block bots?
If you know they're bots, just block 'em.

I doubt everyone uses bot blocking, so this is a step people can use to help protect their systems.

What I meant was... Why challenge bots? If it can tell the difference, why not just block them.

Good point. I can only think it's to avoid the problem of it being a real person and it mistakes it for a bot, so it has to go through the process of the CAPTCHA.

I use a free script I found 20 about years ago. Creates pretty good obscured images, which in all these years, has never been compromized.
However, there isn't much insentive at my web properties for any sophisticated efforts.
With AI reCAPTCHA may also come AI bots.

So this Captcha doesn't work on browsers without Javascript unless the settings are tweaked? Google's magical thinking again? It seems to be more a Wordpress/Joomla solution than a Captcha solution for larger websites.

The ads that are used to monetize my sites also don't work with js disabled. So why should I go out of my way to find a solution for traffic that cannot be monetized? Moreover, the vast majority of human users have js enabled whereas the vast majority of bots do not.

If you have a small website with less than a hundred pages or so, then this might be the solution for you. But if you operate a site with thousands, or tens of thousands, (or hundreds of millions of pages), then this may not be the best solution.
