According to a report, low cost WiFi routers currently on sale are open backdoors and hackers are exploiting this already.
The Jetstream router is the one researchers found, and the Wavlink router seems to have a similar backdoor.
Importantly, researchers say an attacker would not need physical access to the router to exploit it. Assuming a victim was online, someone with knowledge of the backdoor could remotely access it.

This might fall into the "you get what you pay for" category, or it might more accurately fall into the "make it as cheap as we can and make some fast bucks" category.

Either way, those who don't do their homework before buying/installing are the ones who make this kind of horror happen.

Too many trusting (or LAZY!) souls out there. Sadly, that's what makes all this possible.
