Slow download from server, hosting on two servers - a possible fix?

We sell downloadable full HD films from the site but customers complain about download speed that averages 300Kbps. Our server provider said it's an "OK" speed and offered a dedicated service. He let me test the speed from one of the sites sitting on such a server and the download was about 700kbps.

The problem is, I need at least 2Mb/s speeds as the file sizes are huge and I want the clients to be satisfied. I was wondering it it helps to host on 2 or 3 servers to solve the problem. Any ideas?

what is your server load per day?

how many concurrent connections do your normally have?

I would assume you have 100-200 concurrent connections if the dedicated test box was at 100Mbs. You can go for 1Gbps port and some good monthly b/w.

yea you def need gigabit, 2 channel bonded wouldn't hurt either.

once you get that far you are going to have to start watching your disk throughput, cause that will be your next bottleneck.

actually, yea.... that too, do you have any logs on your disks? what interface are they using as well?
