I use Android, it's just fine, as long as you don't enable those features that allow over zealous tracking, same with iPhone, BB, etc.

Email servers still spit out log files in plain text, if you use gmail, yahoo mail, etc. it's archived forever, so on and so forth.

hmm yes that looks more like google, never clear on anything, i bet something is build in the os to track or collect, but if not i would buy, els it looks like it will be a playbook. Its a shame my favorite was the new samsung galaxytab 10.2

I wouldn't touch the Galaxy yet, I don't think the Android tablet market is ready for prime time. The only unit I feel is actually worth what you pay, is the Nook, but it has it's own market so you have to jump hoops to get apps into the Nook, but for the price it can't be beat.

Sadly, iPad is the only thing really ready for prime time IMO at the moment which is why I still don't have a tablet either ;)

You can protect your privacy pretty much on any platform and the ISP or whoever will never know anything about the information exchanged.

You need to do some work though. Basically you have a server on the net that places all the requests on your behalf and then a custom encryption/decryption system between you and the server. So the ISP goes out of the loop as the information is encrypted.

Of course the host of your server sees the requests going in/out but that should not matter so much especially if you're with a dedicated box. That what I would do if I wanted some real privacy for whatever reason.

I hate how much information Google tracks and maintains on me. So I chose the iPad 2. It may not be perfect, but at least it's not a Google Spy product. Why support the evil? Bah. I won't even consider an Android powered phone as my iPhone 3G replacement.

Besides, iPad 2 is quite a bit ahead of any tablet on the market. And it deserves it.

Short of going completely off the grid and moving in with the Amish, privacy is pretty much a myth because every site you hit tracks you because idiot admins don't secure their analytics pages and Google indexes them [google.com].

Basically, Google can often manage to get data tracking about your IP no matter how secure you think you're being when the rest of the world wouldn't know secure if it snuck up and bit them on the butt.

Besides, iPad 2 is quite a bit ahead of any tablet on the market. And it deserves it.

Some tablets can be modified with little effort (depending on your model). There are some Android versions with the "ungoogle" mod, that means the users managed to remove everything G added. I tried one of these on a mini netbook and it worked pretty well. I currently have a tablet running android and despite how wonderful it is, I end up doing sensitive stuff only on my desktop pc.

BTW if you love linux you can also buy a tablet and put Debian Linux on it, you can also put Wince there too (boot in 5 seconds or so) but the available web browsers lack a lot of features except from Opera Mini, while Android and Debian have a lot of alternatives.

I have a ZT-180 and it can run those 3 OS, you can even put dual boot (wince and android) there too.

and actually the moto xoom is better spec wise.

Only techies care about that :-)
