i run all AMD systems :-)

This is the second time Intel's sent out chips that couldn't add. They did this back in the 80's if I recall, with 386's or 486's.

This was a major disappointment for me. I was getting ready to buy two of the new i7 2600 machines and they were pulled from the market. The i7 870’s seems to have dried up also. AMD will definitely profit from this.

save yourself some cash and go with a 6 core AMD black.

I had a 2.8ghz for like over 5 years, never needed more power. I just upgraded to a 3 core AMD and it's way more power than I need. My wife has the same machine but with an SSD drive and I can't imagine needing more desktop horsepower in the next decade. There's just nothing at the desktop level that we do that uses horsepower.

I was pretty disappointed to learn the chipset had a problem. I had been waiting for the 2600K for my next build. Now it looks like I'll have to wait until April.

The delay might even force me to wait on a second technology due out this year... SSDs based on the SF-2000 series controller.

whaaaaaaaaaaat? even lightweight video editing/rendering will bring your system to a stand still. I'm looking for a ram upgrade as i would like to have a few extra VM's running on my different monitors, heck im even looking for more monitors! i think a total of 4 - 6 would be PERFECT!

if you don't need more power you are doing it wrong ;-)

Same with my servers - I think they're like 7 years old. Should replace them soon, but my web pages serve up just fine. And I've got complete duplicate hardware offsite. Hard to justify the time and expense of an upgrade.

They claim the 2600K now finally bests all offerings by AMD. Most of the new machines only contained the 2600 though. I don't know about the faster Intel chips yet because they didn't seem to be out at time of recall.

video stuff is now "web stuff" as the web becomes more video driven...

at any given time, im running 2 mail clients, 2 different versions of web browsers, FTP client, dreamweaver, skype, winamp,etc etc etc all that stuff starts to add up....and its all daily usage.

then if i wanna fire up and do any video editing im not shutting everything down just to do one single task *gag*, do a little real time overclocking and keep on moving.

Really? I never thought of Wifi speed as the week link in most systems. You must have a mighty fast internet connection at home. I've only 25 Mbps.

I don't imagine wifi's great for doing high bandwidth things like transferring files between machines. My house is also wired for gigabit ethernet, into a patch panel with a high end switch. Alas, all that power drains into a stupid little 5mbit internet connection.

home routers suck...period.

im running a 20 port gigabit swtich that all the nodes connect to, moving files go in a flash, streaming is the same... everything on the LAN is flawless.

if i tried doing that with a home "router" the routers buffer would get full and it would start slowing down, i've watched in real time home routers start off fast and just get slower till its down to 10/base-T

no thanks.

for your house put all your nodes on a simple unmanaged gigabit swtich, then let the home router be the way out to the slow 20meg(or less) internet connection. You'll get best results this way without the silly do it all switch router NAT box crapping on itself. *gag* blah!

once you got to a proper wired gigabit connection you'll understand what awesome is. i'd do fiber if it wasn't so fsck-ing expensive.

I have no problems with my wifi set up. It works flawlessly. I don't find my LAN bandwidth to be the limiting factor at all, it's ususally my internet connection or hardware transfer speeds.

Maybe you have a data center at home with dozens of 15,000 RPM SCSIs screaming. I'm not sure why you'd be talking fiber if you didn't. I'm also not transfering gigs of data all the time.

And if you're afraid of intel's chipset problem (not CPU, there seems to be some confusion), you'd be better off waiting to see what bulldozer has to offer than to grab a phenom from AMD.

im not afraid of intel, im already running AMD and see no reason to change.

you have seen the benchmarks the unlocked sandy bridge parts destroy everything up to the $1000 extream parts

well i don't buy 100% on benchmarks... i look at the cost and how much better that other part is, if the price vs how much better it is doesn't sit well with me i choose.

and i've been choosing AMD for a long time, intels chip prices have been out of this universe for a while...maybe if it starts coming back to reality i'll buy them again.

No confusion, it is the chipset.
