Stuck button, maybe Alt or some other.

I've had that problem occasionally, and clicking the left and right mouse buttons alternately a few times fixed it.

No stuck buttons. Clicking left and right doesn't work.

Assuming you have tried a restart, I suggest you check the mouse settings in the control panel. In particular, if you have have tap-to-click enabled, try disabling it.

That didn't work either. It's not a problem with the touchpad, its a problem with the buttons.

have you checked for driver updates?
also, the touchpad utility should have a default selection you can restore to..
any water spilled on the keyboard?
any new apps installed recently?
what happens if the wireless mouse is removed?
what about if the touchpad is disabled and using the wireless mouse only?
have you tried a usb mouse?
do you have a large sledghammer?

Device manager. Remove both touch pad and mouse. Restart. Let Windows find the "new devices" and install drivers. See if that doesn't correct the problem.

The problem is now isolated to the wireless USB mouse. I do not experience the problem using the touchpad.

Batteries are good?

I tried uninstalling the driver, re-booting, and then reinstalling. Problem is still there. I tried checking for updates, there are none.

But now that you mention batteries, this problem did start just as the first mouse battery was running out. I have replaced the battery in the mouse. The computer is plugged in, so it's battery is not an issue.

I'm not at another computer right now, but I will try to plug this mouse into another computer, and plug another mouse into mine. I will report back soon.

OK. The mouse in question has the same problem no matter what computer it is connected to. Another mouse works just fine on my computer. At this point, I'd just as soon fork out $20 for a new mouse.

But the thing is, this mouse is only 5 or 6 months old. It is a Logitech V220 Wireless Optical Mouse. Is this a common issue?

When you changed the batteries did you unplug the base station? Try that. Remove the batteries. Unplug the base station. Put batteries in. Plug in base station. Mouse has to acquire the base station to work.

That didn't work either. I just noticed a "reset" button on the mouse, but that didn't work.
