I have bought a new PC. It has an ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO graphics card. The monitor is my "old" LG L204WT 20,1 inch widescreen.

The problem is that there is some sort of red shadow around all letters. I don't know how I can describe it accuratly but it looks like if the "red" from RGB is shifted a little compared to the green and blue.

The monitor is connected to the graphics card with a DVI cable.

There are dozens of different settings you can adjust in the ATI Control Center and the monitor menus but I do not know which setting is the one that helps with my particular problem. The documentation was not much help either, there was no troubleshooting section.

If it were a CRT I'd suggest turning it upside down overnight; but I don't think that it works for LCDs. First of all I'd want to isolate the problem - try the monitor on another PC or laptop and find out if it's a card/configuration problem or a monitor problem.

A pure guess...

Assuming you are using clear-type font-smoothing, maybe the RGB order needs to be reversed.
