Moving to a dedicated server - but is it enough?

Hi,

I have this website and it is currently on a shared reseller server. The site gets about 50-60GB per month right now and about 1.4 million page views last month and traffic have steadily climbed monthly over the years by about 10-20% per month.

My website is an ad posting website with almost no graphics (except for advertisements and the logo). I am right now considering to moving to a dedicated server before my landlord, errr, hosting company kicks me out from the shared environment. :)

My question is do you think a Pentium 4 2.4Ghz with 1024MB RAM server will be able to handle the following traffic load? The figures below are projections of my site's traffic for next year. Right now, all are 1/4 the figures.

Page Views: 6 million per month
Hits: 25 million per month
Site Vistors: 300,000 per month
Average Page Size: 40 KB (including images)

All your inputs will be much appreciated.

Yes, your server is powerful enough for these figures (and even three or four times these numbers).

Move to a dedicated server as soon as you can; you will see the difference for yourself.

I forgot to mention that my site is PHP-based and powered by MySQL on the backend.

You do NOT need a dedicated server for those types of resources. You simply need a shared plan from a good host...not one that promises everything under the sun for $7.95 a month. Also, you may want to look for a host that uses hsphere control panel. Most of these hosts are clustered meaning they may have a couple servers for control panel, several that serve http traffic, several database servers, and seperate mail servers. With a clustered solution your php/MySQL driven site will move along smoothly.

I have a new site (less than a year old) with the same level of traffics (50 GB, 1.5 m PV). I moved it into a semi-delicated server when its traffics were about a half of the current and caused a shut down. A semi-delicated is basically a shared server with less number of sites (1/6). This semi-delicated serves costs ~$480/yr.
