Problem connecting a second hard drive,my comp wont start!

hey,i got me another older hard drive than the current i have,a 40GB one,ATA\IV one,and im trying to plug it as a slave,jumpers r set correctly and i connected the 'gray cables' just right,my computer recognise it and i can use it,but every time i restart my comp it freezes on the reset screen[not the win login screen,b4 that]and i goota restart like 10 times until i can procceed to win,what is worng?i tried every thing!

It might be the auto-detection setting in BIOSwhen booting up, how is it set? If you have a more recent BIOS set it to Dynamic IDE Autodetection, otherwise use Manual IDE Autodetection.

If none of them work you can define manual settings, but you should not have to unless your drive is very old. It might also be a problem with your drive controller.
