Operating System Not Found

I JUST PURCHASED A USED COMPUTER, BEFORE I PURCHASED THE COMPUTER, THE SYSTEM WAS WORKING JUST FINE. I BELIEVE THE SALES PERSON REMOVED THE INFORMATION FROM THE COMPUTER BEFORE I BROUGHT THE COMPUTER HOME BECAUSE NOW THE COMPUTER SAYS, OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND. WHAT CAN I DO TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM.

THERE IS A COMPUTER PERSON WILLING TO FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT I WANT TO FIND OUT IF THERE IS SOMETHING I CAN DO BEFORE I PAY SOMEONE ELSE.

You should contact the vendor and ask them whether this was the case. If the OS was not included in the deal then you will have to purchase a new one or choose from a number of open source options like Linux.

Check the advertisment carefully. When you buy a computer you buy the hardware, not the software, unless otherwise stated. You will need to install your own choice of operating system (i.e. linux or windows).

This is a typical "bait and switch" move. Show you one thing, deliever another. If you paid via credit card, I'd do a refund or a charge back. Unless, of course, the agreement was for no OS. Check the paperwork.

I don't think this is 'bait and switch' - if they tried to demonstrate a computer without any operating system it would not be possible to see if it worked properly. It is standard practice to load an OS on a machine for that very reason.

Some less ethical sales persons will then leave that OS installed without a proper license. Be glad that in this case they removed the OS and did not leave you with illegal software.

As I mentioned previously - when you purchase a computer that's just what you purchase - the computer - not any software or operating system.

If you purchase a car which contained petrol when you test-drove it you don't expect that when you buy it is has a full tank. If you buy a CD player after hearing a demonstration you don't expect that the salesman leaves the CD inside when it is sold.

Yes, I think we all know and understand that we have to put petrol in a car and buy CDs for our CD players, but what if you bought a car and it had no engine? ;)

A PC is no good to anyone without an operating system and the salesman knew this. If it was his intention to remove it after the demo he should have made it clear that this was the case.

XP pro can be found legally for a pretty cheap price these days too, if the Linux thing scares you. I dual boot XP pro and SUSE at home. SUSE rocks.

that's tipical among salers, sorry to hear they fulled you. You'll have to purchase an operating system (windows if unix is scaring). in xp is preety cheap right now, but it depends on your hardware.

You said a used computer.
I think you should verify HDD.
If everything is OK, you have no choice then installing the operating system
