Does anyone use hardware or software to monitor their connection speed over a period of time. I have a client that is unhappy with his dsl and wants to track the quality of the connection over a period of time.

If your client is using an ADSL/router combo and you want to monitor this rather than the client PC then you might be able to try "Tobi Oetiker's MRTG - The Multi Router Traffic Grapher".

If they are using something like a USB modem or you just want to test the connection from the client, then I would imagine that the easiest way to monitor would be to use some sort of monitoring utility on that PC. If I recall Analogx provide some free tools for such a job.

You also need to define a strategy since a problem might exist with the client PC, ADSL device, cabling, telephone exchange or just simply conditions on the internet at that current time.

There's also a free little program from AnalogX called Net Stat Live that will do just what your looking for.
