The buzz is over integrating GPT models to provide answers in search.
I feel that the traditional search is being neglected in favour of the new kid on the block of LLMs and GPT.

I was lucky to be away for a few days last week and used search to find various services and facilities in the area. Bing and Google wanted to give me answers, but not the sites.

For a long time now the ten-blue-links has taken the back burner, and, perhaps, more-so with the competition to provide something from Bing and google. What I wanted was ten-blue-links.

To the search services getting excited over ML, LLMs and GPT, let's not forget the fundamentals that there are websites out there providing information, and serving users with accurate, local, and specific information.

I'm sticking with DDG for more traditional and not targeted results. Yes, on some search terms they show a few ads at the top, clearly identified as ads. For most of my results there are no ads since I'm more likely to do informational searches.

Yes, DDG could gain more traction. Sadly, Google is baked into Android mobile and it's much more difficult to gain access.

Having spent this time away, i'm going to put a bit more effort into deconstructing Google from Android.

DDG is probably best known by those in the industry, and most others would simply use the Android offering.

Ten-blue-links, or its nearest equivalent these days, ie, your and our websites, will suffer unless the big businesses remember where they get their data.

Would be nice if they remember, but as long as they are already getting results, what is to suggest they change methods now?

I know it is heresy to suggest this to folks who make a living with advertising, but if you install ad blocking software you get "10 blue links" on most search engines! Ad blocking software can be configured to ONLY block the serps/results and allow all other sites to display all ads...

A work around to get more valid search results from the search engines... works for me!

I don't know if people (publishers and site owners) realise the true impact of these changes. Potentially, they are just not going to get the links, and potentially a further decline in traffic.
