Hi
I have a project to create a developer forum just like this for humanity no ads no promotions nothing but helping people without any bullying.
I have browsed many forums until here and [not here] have'nt found a single one without stupid trading and stuff. Admins are bullying users like they are someone special people only help with money.
The point is I want to create a such forum site like this. And I have all the technical knowledge but I want a sponsor that can host my site and I don't know how to find one

Can you help?

welcome to WebmasterWorld [webmasterworld.com], skyfallen!

i would imagine you won't attract any interest until you have invested significantly in building your platform and community.

OK if I understand correctly we need to get our business started
before we can get someone to sponsor us
or is there a way to get a sponsor for kickstarting our project

Sponsors can come from many sectors, however, probably the best start would be to approach the market leaders in the topic sector.
However, you'd need an established presence to demonstrate the value in the site.

there is a site with a name which is pretty much a word you used in your last post.
you can post a project and ask people to fund you.

there are other similar sites.

how well they work i don't know, but i notice that quite a lot of projects get fully funded quite quickly, so there is certainly a chance.... you're already half way there if you already have all the technical knowledge to build a site such as this one.

no promotions

haha, ultimately, everyone is promoting something, for instance you will be promoting your own agenda, whatever that might be!

Follow the money ... and know that eventually those who have the cash will tend to make the rules.

If, on the other hand, you have a product that is so-valuable others want to get IN on the play, you can retain control of the product.

VC capital, on the other hand, really has significant hooks into a business/project ... among other hazards which often entail governmental entities.

Got the site but that kind of sites does not operate in Turkey is there any other options? Also I want to ask a sub-question: What do you think about this idea?
Is it something really possible?
How can I find volunteer people to help me?

Seems like you’re approaching this from the wrong end. Setting up a brand-new site costs next to nothing. If it becomes wildly popular and the host starts demanding more money for more server resources, that’s the point you start asking for backers. By that time there will be interest and you’re not going around saying Hey, I’ve got this great idea--which is not likely to provoke anything but a yawn if they haven’t seen it in action.

lucy24 is spot on. You start with shared hosting and when it is not doing the job you need, move up. By then you will have at least the baby legs to know what you can do, what you need and whether your idea is worthwhile. If it is, volunteers will knock at your door. All the staff here are volunteers, but WebmasterWorld forums started decades ago. You can't expect people to back an idea without any sign that it is a good idea.

Even wikipedia did not start out quite as big as it is today. It started out as an idea.

First, your idea sounds good, hope you make it. There are tons of websites like you describe but it's based on selling and trading, not to mention most of them aren't honest because they base their reputation on building successful websites that aren't successful, or having traffic that isn't real, not to mention the amount of forums only talking about supposed monthly income (again, not real). Tons of serious people who wanted to build websites have approached those "gurus" only to end up lied to and having unfinished projects (that's one way to confirm it's just smoke). And my favorite: so many successful projects and websites that won't make it after 1 year, they are that successful! so much for their portfolio even if those are personal projects.

And I have all the technical knowledge but I want a sponsor that can host my site and I don't know how to find one

You have to build it first, and then you can show people what you have and make offers (traffic, ads, brand name space, etc). Otherwise just as you explain how other forums work, it would be in that case another project selling it's own name that still doesn't exist.

Sponsorship or advertising work similar in many ways, in the sense that they want specific benefits, being traffic, exposure, personal data, tracking, X number of sales per month, etc. So you have to kind of... think and ponder if you have what they want, if you can in some way provide it, otherwise it won't last, even while there are no guarantees on sponsorship or advertising, being sponsorship the best option IMHO because it's mostly based on someone having the same goals and philosophy you have towards a project or situation.

BTW, Welcome to the forum. If you take your time to read around, you will find many forum members started just like you did (me included) in the sense that many had an idea just like yours and made it a personal project in which they invested their own time and resources, sort of "personally funded or sponsored". They/we believed that much in the project, and over time it got advertising or sponsors. This is an example of what happens when people believe in their own projects, and it's easier for others to also believe. Why? there is a quote on some old magazine: why others would invest if you don't invest yourself on your own projects?. I'm not saying you wouldn't, just consider the meaning of the sentence.

Good luck with your project.
