Increased interest in buying existing sites?

What has changed? Why the uptick?

I have noticed an increase lately in unsolicited offers to buy some of my sites. They are mostly from spammy looking SEO places no one ever heard of, not anyone I'd actually think it would be a good idea to do business with or turn over any stats to.

I was just curious what has changed to cause the increase in emails? Is anyone else seeing this? The site that generates the most interest has actually gone down in rankings lately, so I would have thought it would have attracted less notice, not more.

Is Google making it harder for companies like this to launch new sites?

It is creeping me out a bit.

Well, to answer my own question I did a little more searching and the last offer came from web site flippers with short term business models to buy existing sites, load the sites up with ads, add a bunch of pop-ups and sell links and then try to sell the sites based on the increased revenue to someone else before the rankings dropped off or the site got penalized.

So if you are looking to buy a site, you might want to check to see if it has been flipped in the past year, and if the current revenues and rankings are really sustainable long term.

More like "sell it after the rankings and traffic have dropped off" so badly that it's now useless for anything but domain age.

Wow I had never thought of a tactic like this. I have been talking to a broker recently who is interested in buying or finding a buyer for one of my sites. I am definitely going to research this more. Thanks for posting.
