Hi webmasters, didn't know where to put this.
As webmasters and content creators, not just considering how and how much people consume what we create, but also the whole experience affecting where they click, or what ads to show, etc. Is this a new area to study? first we only had Desktop, then we had WAP (old cell phones), then we had tablets and smartphones and sure the size of the device, power, and screen affected not only the design, but also how they consumed the content.
Now, we are facing a new consistent era where such experience is not only defined by the the device, but also how they consume such content: laying in bed, absolutely horizontal, slightly on the side, etc. And if you haven't consider the whole thing, remember: in the bathroom. I guess more and more we will require detecting gyro status to keep in mind the position of the device and from there try to also imagine the mood of the users, the potential, etc.
Detecting bathroom status? sounds funny but I'm not kidding. Such things can affect decisions and what kind of decisions people make.
I got here via diff sources, and I never really thought about this. Turns out a lot of people are experiencing delays in the bathroom, not only they take more time because they are reading, relaxing and consuming something that comes as entertaining or informative, but also... a lot of people are now having issues because what they have to do in the bathroom takes more time, why? because they don't let their body focus and truly relax on doing what humans do there, so... they are told to go to the bathroom WITHOUT their cellphones to try and recover the natural reflexes. Others are being told to avoid the cell phone because they have issues falling sleep, some because of light exposure, others because they are supposedly relaxing but also consuming content. If you think about it, just there we really have 2 diff readers of our content.
I guess in some way or another, those situations point to TRY to engage with the visitor in order to SAVE and do something later, because anyway they won't really do "that thing" right then, but many will actually forget to do so later (buying?). Right now I'm reading a study of X thing that only makes sense to consume with a computer or a tablet with decent screen size, but I'm surprised the stats show the visitors are consuming mostly via cellphone, it really makes little sense and somehow this whole thing became more relevant. Perhaps I just need more coffee, or perhaps this is actually relevant.
What do you think?
