Some of my favorite sites of all time, many of which operated as magazines long before the net was popular, have begun using AI to write articles for them. I'm sure it's less expensive than paying a knowledgeable person and allows them to discuss everything but the techology just isn't there yet.
Example: I was looking at a review of a 'widget' that arborists use and there was a picture of it with the article. When I look at the image its AI driven description gets it mostly right but....
There is a small wire under the corner of the unit leading to the light next to it, I know this immediately as a human. The AI doesn't, it suggests the unit has a telephony use and comes to the conclusion it is a telecomunications device because of what looks like a phone wire.
The quality of the article is suspect as well, only basic facts are given, no opinion, no original testing data and it rambles from keyword to keyword. It's a good article but it doesn't satisfy its purpose for existing.
A quick look at a metrics site and traffic is up 400% in 2 years since going with AI. Quality dropped about that much, too. Just because we can use AI systems to write articles doesn't mean we should! for everything. Recap a baseball game in 20,000 different ways, sure, but evaluate and review a product? Don't do it.
