You are caught in a dilemma ... your CEO says one thing, you are thinking another thing. (smiling:) What is more important? CEO desire or JOB?

In the example BMW is the brand (established worldwide) ... what other "brand" is desired to be established for "seo" work in the future?

I appreciate your response. Yes our CEO wanted to focus on optimizing the brand page of BMW while as an SEO it is better to optimize each BMW car models available for sale or rent on our website. What will be the pros and cons of optimizing a brand page over a product page specially to our niche market as Luxury Marketplace. Thank you!

Going to ask a VERY SERIOUS QUESTION ...

What do you think SEO means?

The original version of "seo" came about because the early web was coded by idiots and masters, and a zillion ordinary folks making things up as they went. Web pages were a hideous mess of poorly used tags, sloppy coding, etc which made first pass indexing kind of crazy and hard to present in "serps". Those who cleaned up had the best benefit ... and the rise of the myth of SEO ...

SEO back then meant code things correctly WITH KILLER CONTENT. Page Rank was introduced ... and abused immensely! So second stage SEO was "Don't Do Something Stupid".

What is SEO not?

It is not any guarantee of traffic or INCOME ... because SEO remains AS IT WAS ORIGINALLY: code right, HAVE UNIQUE AND VALUED CONTENT, and DON'T DO SOMETHING STUPID.

Sadly, folks use the term SEO when they actually mean MARKETING and PENETRATION OF MARKET. This is not SEO.

In your scenario, you have a "brand" with "models" ... that's what you sell. It's that dang simple.

We do have TOOLS (not seo) that can make that more precise like schema and new features in HTML5 etc, but these are only TOOLS, not some myth that has been blown out of proportion.

What SEO actually means these days.

Crappy pages will not rank. Abusive/malicious pages will not rank. Duplicate content pages will not rank. Low volume pages will not rank. These are the ordinary. Worse, you are also competing with each of the search engines that are piling on their OWN products/silos and stealing thunder/traffic.

WORSE is the reality of a gazillion others out there doing the same thing and rising to the top of that noise is extremely difficult. The "Be the Best You Can Be" is operative, and for the most part is BTBYCB in YOUR geo location. Make that happen and your "seo" is stellar. And the best you can hope for.

Sorry for the spew ... "seo" just bothers me as a mantra when it really means BTBYCB and DDSS!

Brand, on the other hand, is exactly the same kind of work, but might actually take throwing some cash at the problem to make it really happen!

When dealing with product/services, customer satisfaction is essential. Again, that's NOT "seo", merely good business practices.

Hi, I expect your CEO has their reasons for wanting to promote brands and as most of us owe our jobs to the benevolence of our CEOs - I suggest you do what is expected of you.

1) Do they want you to promote the brand BMW in association with your own brand?
2) Do they want people searching for BMW cars to buy or lease to find your website?

I assume they want 1 & 2 .. no?
