Do you worry about how many hits each page of your site gets, hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, annually?
Are you despondent that
/1page has 1000 hits an HOUR and
/2page only has 3 hits a WEEK?
Do you agree that not every page is a winner?
Are you perplexed why some obscure page on your site has more traffic than your "best of intent" pages?
Do you then dissect those performing pages to find out what's different about them that makes them so popular?
Most times there's no obvious answer ... however, posting pages to chase keywords/indexing only is usually a waste of time. Post what is necessary for the SITE and most times the traffic will EVENTUALLY even out over the long run, though still less than the "wildly popular page(s)" that make no sense.
Then again, if after a YEAR you have pages that get zero (0) traffic, do you keep them active, or do something to update them (not chasing SEO, just fixing whatever is missing!)?
There are other page angst questions I could ask ... but I'm pretty sure many are already asking these questions already.
I keep things pretty simple, but even then, I see some pages on site that have more traffic than makes sense! Most times it is a single word, required for the topic of THAT page but is NOT SUITABLE for any other page(s). Which begs the question ... are users nuts searching for THAT?
(I miss the days when log referer entries actually had information in them!)
