We have a product that we can save about 50% on shipping by requiring the customer to spend 30 seconds by assembly the product with two small screws. And we will even provide detailed instructions like "3/4 turn after hand tight".

We also plan on throwing in blurb about saving on shipping costs and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, as a feel good message.

i have purchased a lot of merchandise these days, that never mention minor assembly or "some assembly required is buried on the box in 6 point font.

Since you should never put in a negative impediment to a sale, I don't want to advertise a trivial task pre-sale.

Probably being Paranoid, but has anyone received customer blow back on this issue?

When a client looked into the same issue the answer was simple: Save the 50% and supply the screwdriver, too! Never had a problem. Upon request the client would assemble product for customer +labor to do so, and applied the added shipping. Sales of unassembled product rose.

YMMV

When I see the option "Add $150 for Expert Assembly"...

I don't mind seeing "Some Minor Assembly Required."

How about a "some assembly required" note linked to a video to show how easy it is to put the thing together.

Maybe emphasize the savings on shipping costs, if you charge separate shipping.

If you don't charge separate shipping then maybe emphasize the environmental advantage?

Sounds good. All I need is where to buy four sided (instead of 6) Allen keys in bulk. Heard that Robertson (square slot) are not common in American house holds, and it hard to over torque with an Allen key as compared to a screw driver. Lot less chance of customer scratching the product than with a Philips or flat head screwdriver.

Off topic ... Robertson and Square drive are NOT the same thing! USA it is square drive in use... and few households have them in the "toolbox".

- mention that some assembly is required
- post a video on the product page,
- put lot of effort in the video to show how simple this is, and how anyone can do it, very important
- on the box, or manual, or package of the product, put a QRCode linking to the assembly instruction page, quick and easy to get it for the buyer

This can earn you positive reviews for the product, and also positive reviews for the assistance / instructions you are providing, show the serious of your business and that you mind about the satisfaction of your clients.
