Disqus Bans Infowars from Comments Platform Amid Big Tech Purge

Disqus, the popular user comments system, has banned InfoWars from using its service amid the Big Tech purge which has seen Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, Apple podcasts, Spotify, Microsoft’s LinkedIn, and more ban Infowars and Alex Jones from their platforms.

DO NOT MAKE THIS NOTICE ABOUT POLITICS OR THE MESSENGER

I would call this a notice for webmasters to carefully examine their TOS with any third parties henceforth to see if there are any terms that might come back upon them.

I suspect few webmasters, if any, would have thought Discus, a popular commenting system, would have such terms and conditions for use on their website.

Consider with care any third parties you use with your web activities.

Bottom line - a platform that provides a service can set its own rules. Regardless what you think of InfoWars and Alex Jones, I am sure the decision was not made lightly. Given the current atmosphere in the US, their action is laudable because of it.

(I am not expressing any opinion here of IW or AJ, only that Disquis actually enforced their own rules.)

i agree but moreso ... actually i think you are mad to use 3rd parties for serious content ... you are giving away your content and also all kinds of data ... along with the recent facebook data selling scandal, which is surely the tip of the iceberg, i think you ar3e unwise to trust a third party, no matter what your business or no matter what the topic of your website.

If you use third part services, they get to decide what is acceptable, they get to collect user data, they get control. You do not decide any more.

I am often quite happy to have content I disagree with, even find obnoxious on my sites: I may reply, there are things I may remove, but I want to be the one to make the decision.
