Bot mitigation, which I define as where one monitors the raw access log/request headers, detects rogue bots, determines if these bots are beneficial to your site and if not beneficial then bans them.

Is there some certification for this, or is it just another part of being a webmaster? This mitigation skill does not seem to be very widespread, or am I incorrect?

could you make more money as a bot runner?
Depends on 'more than what?'

Bots built to scrape data and package into various products that marketers rely on is a lucrative business, and one that is absolutely essential for the entire ad business.

That's why I wonder about the thinking of those who block all bots, but publish ads on their site & then complain they aren't making enough money.

You can buy "click bots"..hosted on clouds of compromised windows machines of home users for a few dollars per 100K per day, the herders have millions or tens of millions of them for rent, the best bot runners run their own herds, ( and their own adsense sites ) some get busted every now and then..Some work the same thing with face book, youtube and twitter etc.
