Corporate Website With Multiple Retail Locations

Multi-location web presence

Looking for ideas, comments and suggestions.

Summary: The company has six locations in five states. Each location is a retail shopping destination.

The corporate office is not a public location, so we just want to push the 'local' for each retail location.

Each location has separate facebook pages, pinterest pages etc

Currently, the company has one website with each location with a separate sub-directory designation.

We would like to redesign our web presence to a WordPress site.

We also would like to allow each of the six locations to run their own blog area (so consumers would be able to subscribe to the store’s blog).

Another possibility is to also build a mobile app that would allow customers to see corporate info along with info from each location. This could be a geo-base application that would present the closest store's information.

Alternatively, we are considering one main corporate presence, then six separate WordPress installs, one for each store. Then we would either build separate web apps, one for each store. Or a mobile app that would allow the consumer to select which location's info they would receive.

One main idea of the mobile app is to allow for push notifications of new information posted.

Of course, our goals include proceeding with a plan that will best fit into prudent SEO practices.

Would there be benefits to having one corporate site with six separate store sites? Especially, if we wanted consumers to connect to a location via a downloadable app.

Thanks!

It would be a lot easier to manage WordPress MU instead of 6 installs. Most places have one app and one website for their stores. I really think you should keep everything together. You will get a lot more power from one site one app. Separately they won't have near as much power as they would together. You lose a ton of synergy by doing that. You really did not ask about SEO but I Have to say from a SEO standpoint you will distribute your link efforts by doing this. 6 links to 6 sites has far less value than 6 links to one site.

Agree with ogletree. A single WordPress install configured for WordPress Network [codex.wordpress.org...] using sub-directories for the sub-sites would work well for you.
