AdWords Phone Clicks vs Call Tracking Discretion

Hello,

We see a huge difference in the amount of phone clicks in AdWords compared to actual phone calls going through with our call tracking (could be like 25 vs 0-1). Wondering if anyone has seen any articles on this or the social science behind why this is happening? Are people hovering over the phone number and saving it? Is it just how it is? Are there ways of improving this?

Thanks!

Yeah I think I know what going on. This cost me a ton of money promoting pay per call programs before I figured out what was up.

It's because with Adwords, Google counts and charges you for every click on the phone #; they count it as a conversion regardless as to whether the caller actually went with the call or not.

Also in some cases when the user clicks the phone #, they are stopped with a message asking them if they actually want to go through with the call or would they rather exit. This can really kill conversation rates!
