When I access my website in Internet Explorer 11, the address bar and page title change to that of the ring my site is in and the ring navigation is slapped across the bottom (in a scrolling banner). If i access my site in Internet Explorer 8, I'm immediately redirected off my page and onto the webring hub. And even though it might not do the same thing in Internet Explorer 11, I don't know whether visitors will be redirected away from my site when using newer versions of other browsers because I haven't checked any other browsers yet to see if this is the case. Is terminating my membership in this ring the solution if I don't like it?

You have likely installed something that is affecting your browser, probably from this ring.

I don’t remember installing ANYTHING from this ring on either my PC or my website. Besides I used a different computer when I accessed my site in Internet Explorer 8, therefore the same thing could likely happen if I was to install Internet Explorer 11 on a third PC and access my site though there.

If it's not local then what did you add to your site? If it's redirecting users to this ring, then that code you installed/added to your site is likely to blame.

Rings require code to operate... which you put on your pages. It is in there these actions occur and it appears that the separate versions of IE are reacting differently. Might take some hacks to the ring code to stop that behavior... and that might break the ring. Just thoughts.

Is terminating my site's membership in this ring the only way to get rid of it if I don't want users to be redirected onto the ring?

We now know it isn't just Internet Explorer. I downloaded and installed Mozilla Firefox version 28.0 and the same thing happened when I went to my site.

Simply remove the code / undo the settings that you made on your site when you joined this ring. That should stop re-directs...and take your site out of the ring.

That was what I meant by terminating my site's membership.

Okay, I just did all of those things.

I wasn't sure if you might have been referring to just canceling your membership on the web ring site as that would not have removed the offending redirect code.

Do you still have the redirect issue after removing the code?

No, I no longer have the redirect issue now that I've taken my site out of the ring and removed the code from my page.
