Any benefit to changing nameservers?

Is it beneficial to move to my own nameservers or stay with Cloudflare?

I know enough about nameservers and DNS records to follow directions on changing or adding things, but not much more that that. I am currently using CloudFlare's nameservers and have my DNS records with them.

I recently setup a VPS hosting package and was thinking about moving the nameservers to my own server - dns1.domainname.com.

What does that do, if anything?
Is there any benefit/drawback?
Do I need to manually update all the DNS records with the new nameserver or will it import automatically?

I am not sure if you can host your own nameservers if you use cloudflare. They do all kind of tricks with geo hosting on DNS level.

There is also a risk when your VPS is down the email handling will stop because the MX records cant be resolved anymore.

So my advice is just use the cloudflare nameservers.

Also -- managing your own DNS is nothing you just throw together. Chances are, based on your questions in the first post, that you would be getting yourself in way over your head.

That said, unless you have specific reasons for needing to manage your own DNS, it generally is more trouble than it is worth.

For the most part, can't I just copy the DNS records from CloudFlare into the DNS records in WHM? I understand the basics, and I already have the nameservers setup and ready to go. Most of the records were the same, but added a few TXT verification entries, and then MX entries because Google Apps handles our mail. Is there more to it than that?
