Monitoring website uptime - 2013 options

Looking for an option, preferably hosted locally

So, we have a dodgy website. Until we can scrap it, we need to know when it falls over.

We don't have the resources to fix the site (it's a long story), and we don't have the resources to write our own monitoring software.

Surely this must be a common requirement - the ability to point an application at a site, and say 'tell me when it doesn't work'.

Cost doesn't matter (within reason), but I want it to be entirely hosted locally, so none of this cloud-based stuff. Only I want to know when this site goes down!

Has anyone got any ideas where I can start looking?

I know it's a difficult one to answer without brand names, links, etc, but searching only appears to be giving me remotely-hosted solutions, and the couple of local ones I could find appear really poor.

Any thoughts of where I could start?

You can try Nagios, but its a pain to set up

I've used alertra.com in the past. Though it's a hosted service you pay for monthly. If you host the solution locally, it won't be a good test, since if your external network goes down, the internal test will still work. If that isn't an issue, then I guess something local would be ok, but I don't know one offhand.

There is no less of website monitoring solutions provider today. Many of them even provide free monitoring solutions up to some extent. You can try them. A good website monitoring company notifies you every time your website goes down and as soon as it goes down with the details of the problem so that you can fix it within no time. And perform 1440 times checks per day.
