Want site search, but not use Google

What are my options?

OK well I know of Google's site search such as CSE however I don't want to use them as an internal search engine.

What is the best alternative for a site search tool that I don't have to mess with? I don't want something locally as I have a forum, photo gallery script, static HTML pages, etc. I think my site search tool needs to be something external that indexes like a search engine.

I tried looking at Bing and Yahoo but didn't see a site search type offering.

So how do I get something comparable to the Google site search box for my site, except not use Google? Ideally I want something free but I would consider paid options if it's really good.

there is a google search appliance and other enterprise search options, but that might be pricey for your purposes.
Google Enterprise Search - relevant, easy search for intranets and websites:

blekko has an embeddable serach box but i haven't tried it - blekko:

No I didn't find a good alternative. The G search box won't work because well, it's a Google product, but also because I operate my sites on VPS with no access to hardware.

I looked at Blekko but it doesn't seem to have indexed my sites... I will look at the other mentions in the other thread. Thanks.

Why not just use Google? They take plenty from everyone, so why not take something back if it's free?

Using their search just gives them more insight into my visitors and what they are looking for. They take enough as it is from everyone. From what I can see so far, they have the best site search out there, though.

Check gigablast, it used to have a site search function.

I'm still using the old Fluid Dynamics Search Engine script on one site. It hasn't been updated since 2005 though. ;p

I've used this one for many years, [freefind.com...]
The free version has limits (e.g. 3,000 pages)
