Increasing page view per visitor through site design?

How can I increase page views from the current 1.5 on average to closer to 2. I believe I can do it somehwat (maybe not to 2 pages) through some tweaks in the design of the pages. What are the ebst ways from your experience of increasing page views per visitor.

Should I have related/most read articles at the bottom of each article? Maybe use a tag cloud at the end of an article which shows articles based on keyword terms?

Any ideas?

By the way, this is on a health site.

The latest leaked version of the Google rater handbook tells raters to look for and rate a pages supplemental content as follows...

• no supplementary content
• distracting/not helpful
• so-so
• helpful
• very helpful

My guess is if you make, or improve, such a supplemental content section for your pages, that includes extra information as well as related links to other pages, that you will get both better ratings and a higher number of pageviews.

I'd also consider using a bread crumb navigation system above the main content on some types of sites as this seems to bring up the average number of pageviews a little bit, you'll need to test it yourself to see if it works for your site.

On a health site, as in the human body, everything is somehow related to something else. I would place links in the form of a sentence and ad them between every 2nd or 3rd paragraph. A lot of major news portals already do, such as Yahoo.
