Spam from affiliate vendors

Recently, in an attempt to better organize my business I started with email accounts. I created new email addresses for each part of the business (affiliate relations, sales and so on). Soon afterwards I started receiving spam email messages to the brand new email account I had created for the several vendors I am affiliated with. Should I
"safely" assume that these emails come as a result of one of these companies spamming me/selling my email address to spammers? I don't see how else anyone could have gotten this address since it is not easy to guess.

If you're using standard department names then you're probably just the target of run-of-the-mill spam. If I setup an address like info@example.com, sales@example.com, or affiliates@example.com then I'd expect a standard spam address dictionary include those.

Should I

Or just poor security and a virus.

One company I worked for, one of the field staff didn't follow the rules to protect his laptop and the entire address book got out into the wild.
