Could I be making more $ from my website?

I get lots of hits, but little money - what am I doing wrong?

I get over 100,000 page impressions per month from my website but I only average about $150 bucks a month. I feel like I'm leaving something out.

I currently use Adsense, Commission Junction and Linkshare.

Are there other things we can do to make more money?

I know it's a very general question. I use the maximum number of Adsense ad's allowed and have tried all different colors, locations, etc.

But I was just wondering if maybe people had some general tips of other ways to better monetize that they wouldn't mind sharing, that I could possibly be getting wrong or leaving out.

It's hard to answer that because a lot of it depends on the topic and type of your site.

Have you tried selling ads or getting site sponsors directly? That can be a lot more work on your end, but might pay better

Do you mean like selling links? I have not looked into that. Is there a link selling market place? Is that still frowned upon by Google?

No.

I meant selling ad space directly to businesses that want to reach the type of person that visits your site.

the nice trick is to see if any affiliate offers are among the ads you have.. if you spot any.. go sign up for them and throw out third party out of the chain :) this can double if not triple your profits :)

If you have a decent proportion of repeat visits then ad blindness may be setting in.

You could always try altering the look and feel by changing ad formats, moving ads to different positions, maybe even dropping ads from some pages for a week or two. When click throughs have fallen off I have found that some minor changes will make the ads catch the visitor's eye again.
