Should be blog inside SUBdomain or main domain?

Should be blog inside SUBdomain or main domain
Example: blog.mydomain.com
or
mydomain.com/english/blog

Why some companies use blog as subdomain? Is there some article?
Is this issue with login?
Is this issue with many languages and inside blog.mydomain can be more prepared for my mobile smart phones?
