Things are changing at Google. They are looking for people who can innovate, yet fit it. Their hiring process is unique, difficult, as you likely know. Page approves ALL hires.
A software engineer who lived near Google that I knew specialized in taxonomic filters, which is what makes Adwords work. He had a PhD and written published papers on it. But, he couldn't get in. He had his way, but they didn't need another way. They needed someone who could make the Google way better.
Can you make Google better at something they do? They are looking for help. Assistance. They buy firms that innovate. They hire people who can help them with specifics.
