Im going to start by saying It was quite difficult to find the correct place to post this question as well as finding an appropriate subject title.
My question/problem is this.
I am re-designing a website for the company I work for. I am not a professional web designer, but a self taught amateur. My most difficult task in the project at hand is dealing with a member of top management who's knowledge about the web is a bit outdated to say the least. The latest battle I'm fighting is regarding the product index and product map pages that she is very reluctant to get rid of or even change. Ive for now given up on trying to get rid of the product index page, (which is nothing but a list of every single product we sell) but I am still trying to at least improve the Product Map. The problem is that these pages are not intended for customers, they are designed for web crawlers. I do understand that we need to keep our web ratings up but the way the page is now is just not acceptable. I want to and can improve it, but only if I can convince top management that it will not have any negative effects on our google rankings.
Currently the page is an html, while the rest of the website is .asp. For various reasons, I need to make this page .asp. The problem is, the previously mentioned member of management argues that we need to have this page as an html due to something about a limit to the number of links that can be crawled on an .asp page. I told her regardless if that is true or not, my argument is that we already have the product index page, and we submit our sitemap to google. I feel that those two items should be sufficient as far as getting the pages indexed. In addition, we rely heavily on paid advertising, and receive very little from organic listings(I am also currently in charge of our online marketing). Is there any reason why we should need to keep this page that is anything but user-friendly, or are my arguments true?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I really do not want our customers to see this page as it currently is, but I need help in reassuring others that change is in our best interest.
Thanks for reading.
