Website loading slowly

osCommerce site on Apache server

Hello everyone,
Within the last few days the osCommerce portion of my website has started to load pages very slowly, about 15 seconds to load. My site has two separate sections; one is all html and the other is osCommerce. The html portion of the site is fine. It is just the osCommerce pages that are slow. Also, today I had my host enable the PayPal Pro module for the site. But the slowness began 3 days ago. I requested the change to PayPal Pro on the same day it started to run slow. What could cause the all of a sudden slow loading pages? Could it be mysql?

there are many free automated analysis tools available online; for example you can run your URL thro' webpagetest.org and find out the issues.

You may also want to check out other free tools like google page speed or YSlow ( Also check your google webmaster central diagnostics for other hints to potential causes and remedies )

Hi,
The problem was a hack attack on the server, not specifically my site. The host took care of it. So it is now working better, but I'd like it to be a little faster. Thanks for the suggestions for testing page load speed.

PayPal must have added additional code or files that are loaded on your site.

If you're using a shared server, which I assume since you said the hack attack wasn't against your site, you can optimize until the cows come home but anyone on the server can impact your performance.

The only real solution to that kind of a performance problem is a dedicated server and there's a lot of inexpensive solutions out there.
