cms to run a website

would you suggest a cms web site?

Right now I currently am a webmaster for a website that is 7 years old. The site has over 3k pages and gets about 80k unique visitors per month.

This is all good and well and the site has been about doubling every year as I make the site better on a continuous basis. However, there's only so much 1 person can do and I want to grow to be in the top 100k most popular sites and make tons of money :-)

My question is would you suggest to move a site that is primarily page by page HTML createde with minimal css and custom PHP programming, transfer to a CMS style website? This is being recommended to me by a SEO company and would appreciate any feedback from all the W.W. faithful.

However, there's only so much 1 person can do and I want to grow to be in the top 100k most popular sites

What does this mean? If it means you can't write enough, create enough, and want others to take up the slack, okay... been there many times. If that also means my created code is a bit arcane and difficult for hired writers to insert new content then a more commonly used CMS might be a solution. There's quite a few choices out there.

Good point tangor. The main goal is better usability and optimized for more traffic.

you should also be concerned about what happens to your existing urls.

better usability ? maybe

optimized for more traffic( do you mean more speed OR better search engine ranking ) ? probably not.

So what exactly is your usability problem, a CMS is not a fix all solution.

A CMS with a new design change to make the site more user freindly. A CMS will also force me to create a standard code across all pages that will be w3c compatible. This will create better ranking.

This sounds like a act of faith to me. Your stats seem Ok to me. Try redoing a few pages "CMS like" whatever that means and see how it changes there ranking. w3c compatible is good but unlikely to effect ranking much.

Find the problem before choosing a fix.
