I ran a 404 site scan on a domain this AM and received reports of the following errors that look to be coming from eConsultancy.com.

Here's what the 404 error URL string resembles, with specific company information removed.

domainname.com/sub-page/sub-page/econsultancy.com/directories/suppliers/company-name

Any other webmasters who have a listing or affiliation with eConsultancy ever seen these?

If you have seen these types of 404s before, any idea how to fix them?

The company in question is just a bronze level member of eConsultancy... which is why the 404 error is so confusing to me. To my knowledge, there is no RSS feed syndication of the company on the eConsultancy site - my first and best guess as to why these 404s have appeared.

I've never seen that company.com on my stats, anyway this has been reported as a way to get visitors or the url of stats pages.

In other words there are companies who link to you temporarily to produce referral footprints on your stats, other just call any page to produce the same but with a 404 error. The intention is the same, making you visit the url they provide. There you go, they get a free click and sometimes the public url of your stats (if not pass protected).
