If other sites link to mine using my url for the anchor text rather than the name of my site, I think search engines can pick up keywords for my site if my url has them in it. Am I correct?

So, for SEO, is the url as anchor text just as good, or about as good, as using the keywords as the anchor text?

There are some instances where the keyword rich anchor text is not an option. Also, when it comes to SEO, the surrounding environment will determine the effectiveness of the href mention. Take a gander here...

You'll find that there are many other methods where your domain can be discovered. Most just focus on the anchor text which of course is the perfect scenario but when it comes to machine readable grammar, there may be other hints that an href/domain mention can get that are just as powerful as anchor text. ;)
